In order to keep your rebreather functioning at its best, it’s important to keep up with routine maintenance and care. By properly maintaining your rebreather, you will reduce future repair costs, optimize your rebreather’s performance and extend its life. Here are 6 regular maintenance needs to keep in mind. To read up on details of each of these particular points, check out the full article here.
- Be proactive
- Keep it dust-free
- O-ring care and maintenance
- Disinfecting 101
- Track the life of your cells
- Solenoid Care and Replacement
While this isn’t an all-encompassing list of items needed to maintain and care for your rebreather, these can certainly help! Following a regular maintenance and care routine is an important step to keep your rebreather functioning properly for years to come. Doing so will reduce the chance of missing dives due to equipment failures and increase your overall experience while diving your rebreather. Follow your unit-specific rebreather manual for detailed information about the care and maintenance of your unit and consult the manufacturer to see when your rebreather should be serviced.
Defender CCR
The Defender CCR with the SG-1 electronics package utilizes a rechargeable, sealed lithium ion battery. Battery duration can vary widely depending on several factors including amount of time the solenoid is firing, brightness setting of screen display, water temperature, air temperature and age of battery. Typically, a fully charged battery will last in the range of 12-14 hours between charges (based on a 50% solenoid firing ratio). SubGravity highly recommends recharging the primary handset nightly to ensure the unit does not dip below a sufficient voltage. We recommend never starting a dive with a voltage lower than 3.6 volts.X-CCR
The X-CCR utilizes dual, removable, rechargeable, 18650 lithium batteries. When the voltage dips below 3.2 volts on the primary battery, the secondary battery takes over. Each battery lasts approximately 10 hours depending on such factors as amount of time the solenoid is firing, brightness setting of screen display, water temperature, air temperature and age of battery. SubGravity highly recommends recharging the batteries nightly to ensure the unit does not dip below a sufficient voltage. We recommend never starting a dive with a voltage lower than 3.6 volts.- 9.1 lbs – 7 hours (expedition size scrubber for Defender CCR only)
- 8 lbs. – 6 hours (standard size scrubber for full size units)
- 5.5 lbs. – 4 hours (standard size scrubber for travel size canister)
- 4.4 lbs. – 3 hours (mini size scrubber for travel size canister)
